Typewriter Olivetti Lettera 32 – With Original Instructions, Cleaning Kit, Dust Cover and Carrying Case - '70s

Magnificent '70s Olivetti typewriter, complete with all of its accessories. Engineered by Adriano Menicanti, the Lettera 32, modernist masterpiece by designer Marcello Nizzoli, was produced from 1963 as an evolution of its ancestor Lettera 22 and proved to be one of the most successful models of the Piedmontese giant. Handy, sturdy and cost-effective, it drew the crowds among students and journalists, and, for drafting their works, it became the loyal companion, inter alia, of Oriana Fallaci, Francis Ford Coppola, Günter Grass, Cormac McCarthy, Indro Montanelli and Philip Roth. The specimen for sale (serial number 1982170), a post-1967 2nd version, with two-tone ā€œolivetti lettera 32ā€ label and aluminium line space lever, has a diaspron light blue color with embossed finish, and a QZERTY-based keyboard. Endowed with its rare, original carrying case, showing a single chip at a corner of the handle and a light yellowing on the inclined surface, the machine – except for three/four tiny scrapings on the body paint coating along the coupling line with the snap-off top plate -, needing oiling and a general cleanup only, is sold in great conservation conditions, both to an aesthetic and a functional level, still fitted with original dust cover, operating and unpacking instructions, maintenance kit (with typeface cleaning brushes, eraser and erasing shield) and even an Olivetti marked dry silica-gel sachet. A true icon of Italian post-World War II design, this Lettera 32 proposes itself both as a collector's item and an elegant piece of furniture for a studio or a living room in perfect '70s style!
