Commemorative / Jubilee Medal "Twenty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945" (With Ribbon and Certificate) - USSR, 1965

Interesting Soviet commemorative medal dating back to the '60s of the past century. Established on 7th May 1965, the award celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in WWII (for the Soviet/Russian historiography, Great Patriotic War 1941-1945), and was assigned to all Soviet Armed Forces personnel, both military and civilian, who had somehow played an active role in the national war effort. Manufactured in brass, the medal shows, on the recto, flanked by the dates Ā«1945Ā» and Ā«1965Ā», above two oak branches, the renowned Warrior-Liberator, sculpture group by E. V. Vučetič (1908-1974) at the center of the Soviet War Memorial monumental complex in Berlin's Treptower Park, representing a Soviet soldier, with a German girl in the arms, in the act of brandishing a sword and crushing a swastika with his boot, on the verso, instead, the Roman numerals of the anniversary (Ā«XXĀ»), surmounted by the Bolshevik star, and surrounded, along the circumference, by the embossed inscription Ā«Š”Š’ŠŠ”Š¦ŠŠ¢Š¬ Š›Š•Š¢ ŠŸŠžŠ‘Š•Š”Š« Š’ Š’Š•Š›Š˜ŠšŠžŠ™ ŠžŠ¢Š•Š§Š•Š”Š¢Š’Š•ŠŠŠžŠ™ Š’ŠžŠ™ŠŠ• 1941-1945 Š“Š“.Ā» (that is ā€œTwenty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945ā€). Complete with its red-green-black ribbon, tightened around the pentagonal mount typical of Soviet awards, fitted with the original certificate, released in 1967 to Arkadij Ivanovič Kirsanov by the draft board of the Perm oblast', the medal is sold in excellent preservation conditions: a true killer deal for all post-1945 Soviet memorabilia collectors!
