Wonderful couple of Modello 1929 puttees, for Royal Army (Regio Esercito) troops and NCOs. Made of robust grey-green cotton, the strips were about 70 cm long and 8 cm wide: designed to wrap the lower part of the leg, from below the knee to the ankle, they prevented rain from getting in the regulation boots, performing a useful anti-scratch and anti-cold function as well. For the fastening above the shoe, they were provided with an aluminium riveted clasp, while, for the fixing around the calf, a little strap with chrome-plated buckle - about 40 cm long - was available to the soldier. Iconic standard issue equipment of Italian infantrymen in both the World Wars, the puttees (in Italian, fasce mollettiere or fasce gambiere) come today as humble military accessory with a history all to rediscover.
