Gorgeous compact Decca Junior Portable gramophone, for 78 rpm records, of British manufacture, dating back to the 1920s. Heir to the famous Dulcephone, also called “Trench” Gramophone, portable phonograph supplied to British soldiers during WWI to bring a little comfort to the trenches, first real commercial success of musical instrument works Barnett Samuel and Sons Ltd. - from the end of the '20s onwards better known as The Decca Gramophone Company Ltd. -, the Junior Portable, as its predecessor, showed the mechanism placed inside a practical case, with the lid used as soundbox by the tonearm (the so called “bowl-in-lid” amplification). The model for sale, with wooden box finished in black faux leather (leatherette), tuck lock and “Crescendo” Junior reproduction diaphragm, displays then a removable winding handle – housed in a clip on the cover –, two levers for motor brake and fine turntable speed adjustment, and a concealed bowl for spare needles: a true sight for sore eyes! By lifting up the turntable from the central spindle, a factory label, with patent number and «MADE IN LONDON» inscription, informs us about the production date, too: «24928», that is 24^th September 1928. Except for normal signs of wear on the surfaces and some small holes along the coupling border of the bottom with the cover, the device is sold in very good general conditions, still functioning (see video attached), with an efficient machinery - even still greased (see photos) -, well preserved metal components and a really enviable case! An unmissable jewel for all collectors, an irresistible direct line with the Roaring Twenties!
